Lewisham MindCare Dementia Support has secured £1800 from the Dementia Engagement and Empowerment Project (DEEP). The money will be used to co-produce a new, seated exercise group with and for people living with early stage dementia in Lewisham.
Lewisham MindCare will be working with people diagnosed with dementia and members of its Advocacy Group to design and create the new seated exercise groups with the aim of launching the groups in early 2019.
Laura Saksena, Dementia Support Manager, said,
“Lewisham MindCare previously ran a seated exercise group for Lewisham residents with early stage dementia for 5 years. This sadly came to an end but we are happy to receive this small grant to co-produce a new group with people who will benefit from it.”
“The previous groups were very popular and represented much more than dementia-appropriate exercise and physical wellbeing – many people were often excited to be involved, attending the classes and helping run them, as the groups provided social connection and purpose.”
If you are diagnosed with dementia, are the in early stages, live in the London Borough of Lewisham and would like to help design the new seated exercise groups, please contact Laura Saksena (Tel: 020 3328 5960) or email using the form below:
