Bromley Dementia Volunteer Wins Award

Susannah Matthews (pictured far right in the photo above) received an award at the Community Links Bromley Volunteer Awards Ceremony held on Thursday 7th June 2018 at Bromley Central Library.

Volunteer Awards were presented by Deputy Mayor of Bromley, David Cartwright.

Susannah won the ‘Make It Happen Award’ and has been a regular volunteer at the Beckenham MindCare Dementia Centre for the last year. She has been recognised for taking the time to speak with people with dementia and find out about their life stories. Susannah loves to share memories and understands the significant difference this can make helping people to live well with dementia.

Susannah also loves to crochet and has brought her crafts skill into the centre to share with clients, helping them to learn a new skill or bringing back fond memories of crocheting and making beautiful scarves and hats.

Susannah said, “Work can be so fast passed but when I am at the centre, I can slow down, take the time to chat and enjoy those moments, sharing a story or memory, I really enjoy my time at the centre.”
