MindCare Dementia Support has launched Coping with Caring for dementia carers in the London Borough of Wandsworth, funded by NHS Wandsworth Clinical Commissioning Group.
Coping with Caring Wandsworth provides families and friends looking after a person with dementia with the information, support and skills to best care for them. The project will offer dementia carers with:
- personalised coaching at home
- a series of group workshops
- follow up advice by telephone and email for course and group participants
Group workshops helping carers learn about dementia, what it is like to have dementia and how to best understand the person they are caring for will take place in February 2016.
What Others have had to say about Coping with Caring
94% of carers who took part in Coping with Caring between April 2014 and March 2015 said they would offer improved support to their relative as a result of MindCare coaching and training sessions.
“The course has enhanced my knowledge and confidence in caring for my mother. I was devastated and now feel fully equipped to care fully and effectively.”
“Widened knowledge. Increased options. Affirmed much of present action. This deserves to be more widely known!”
“It was beneficial for my Dad to hear from a professional and to confirm that he is on the right path of caring [for Mum]. Wonderful, friendly and patient trainer. Thank you.”
“Since I have attended this session, I feel less isolated.”
