Dementia Awareness Week 2015 is running from 17-25 May 2015. Below is an outline of our events planned for the week.
The Beckenham MindCare Centre will have a musical day on Tuesday 19 May. Music is something that positively stays with many people with dementia.
During the day, clients who usually attend the centre on Tuesdays will be making their own musical instruments. The centre will also be introducing something new to clients with music from the 1970s, as more people in their 50s and 60s with dementia attend the MindCare centre.
Family carers are invited to the afternoon session from 1.30pm to 2.30pm when there will be professional entertainment, singing, dancing, tea and cakes. This event is for Beckenham Centre clients and family carers only.
On Wednesday 20 May, 1pm -2pm, the St Paul’s Wood Centre at Giggs Hill will be entertaining clients who regularly attend on that day with entertainment duo, Caught in the Webb. Carers are welcome to join their family members on the day for singing, dance, tea and cakes. This event is for St Paul’s Wood Centre clients and family carers only.
MindCare Dementia Support will be at the Mission Café, Unit 8A, The Mall, Bromley, BR1 1TS on Friday 22 May between 10am and 12pm. Visitors can find out more about the services MindCare offers. This event is open to members of the public.
Last year’s Dementia Awareness Week encouraged people to talk about dementia. We recorded some videos with carers, Christine and Tom, with them sharing what they learnt about dementia and the caring role. You can view the videos on our YouTube channel.
